Is lobster good to have after surgery?
If so how long after surgery till it can be eaten again? — m b G. (posted on September 17, 2002)

I had a bowl of lobster bisque (well, 1/3 of a bowl!) at about 8 weeks post
op when my husband and I went out to dinner for our anniversary. It lasted
me 3 meals, and had some pretty good chinks of lobster meat in it. It was
delicious, and I had no problems at all with it!

crab and shrimp were some of the first things that I tolerated well. I am
not a lobster eater (from Maryland...Not Maine!!!), but it is in the same
basic category. Just try and skip the butter...that makes me sick. AND, it
is wonderful protein, low fat, good cholesterol.

Since I live in Maine, it's a pretty good thing that I'm able to tolerate
lobster, but it did take a while. I couldn't tolerate seafood until about
8 months post-op. I think it was the chewy texture that was causing me
problems.

Yes, lobster is the best!! So is king crab and crab cakes and
shrimp..yum..at about 2 months out, I was ordering cooked lobster from my
local grocery store seafood counter and having a great time...lobster salad
is also very good (lobster, mayo, celery, onion...)
