Question:
Not sure how many calories, fat, protein & cabs per day they recommed of RNY patients

I just registered for fitday.com. There is an area to put your goals. What do they recommend for post-op RNY patients as far as calories, grams of protein, grams of fat, and how many carbos per day? I wasn't sure. I am a little over 4 months post-op RNY. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!    — Allison T. (posted on August 27, 2002)

I'm still Pre-op, but, my surgeon Dr. Barry Greene of Silver Spring, MD highly stresses 70 grams of protein and 30 grams of carbs per day. He didn't say anything to me about the calories though. I do know from reading this Q/A board that almost all doctors have different opinions. So, it would be in your best interests to ask your doctor and/or nutritionist for what their protocol is. Good Luck

I just talked with a dietician today and she told me that the goal is to get to 1200 calories. I know from my years of dieting, no doctor ever recommended anything less than 1000 calories to stay healthy and still lose weight. At 4 months post-op, I would think you would want to be close to 1000. I am 3 weeks post-op today, and when I called my doctor today to ask them my caloric guidelines, she couldn't tell me either, but said to get 55-70 grams of protein and no more than 100 carbs--which I thought was very high. Good luck and let me know if you find out any more info.
