Question:
Is this good or bad

I'm 22 days post op and having a very hard time getting in all my fluids. Today, so frustrated, I added 1oz of Newman's Own Lemonade to my 20oz bottle of water for flavor. It did the trick and I drank the whole thing right up. Before I do it again I wondered if others tried the same thing and/or if it's a no-no. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks ! Like the previous poster I too like to add the Real Lemon. However last year Wegmans had a Real Lemon that had no SULFATES in it. That was the best stuff I ever had. Now I can't find it. :( But sure, add some flavor to your water. Whatever works!

Looking at the Newman's Own Website, I found that there would be about 14 calories in that one oz of Newman's Own Lemonade, along with 3+ grams of sugar. The lemonade has high fructose corn syrup in it (#2 ingredient) as well as sugar (#3 ingredient). Have you tried the Crystal Light Lemonade?

Crystal Light has some real good drinks. Try some of them, they are real good and are better for you as far as sugar goes. I can't live w/o my Crystal Light lemondae and Pink lemonade. They have a Raspberry Lemonade too that sounds good. Fruito 2 0 is a lightly flavored water also. A lot of people love it but it doesn't have enough flavor for me.

Okay ... after a long haul trying to make water more "amiable" to my taste buds, I have finally found a solution that works to me. I drink approximately 128 oz. per day of decaffeinated iced tea (green tea) flavored with Splenda. Zero calories, easy to make, zero caffeine, zero carbonation. The taste? DELICIOUS!!!

One of my favorite drinks pre op was Countrytime Old Fashioned Lemonade Ice Tea...well, it's loaded with sugar. I have now begun taking half a glass of crystal lite lemonade and mixing it with half a glass of crystal lite iced tea...the result: a sugar free version of an old favorite!!! Yum!! Good luck ~CAE~

Sorry, I don't know anything about Newman's Own Lemonade. I drink Decaf, flavored ice teas with Splenda. My favorite flavor is orange spice. It makes my water/fluids intake so much more bearable. :o)

I had the same problem, and I think most of us here did too. I could not get close to enough fluids until I added Orange Juice to my morning routine (with lots of crushed ice, so it was a bit diluted by the time I finished it). Try MINUTE MAID LIGHT LEMONADE -- it is made with real lemon juice, and beats crystal light hands down (not even the same category!). Also, for variety, try Crystal Light Raspberry Iced Tea. Maybe these will help. Oh, and I use a straw. I figure a little gas is worth getting all of my fluids, and straws make it easier for me. By the way, I was 8 weeks post when I made this discovery and the results have been outstanding!

I too had a tremendous problem with getting all of my water in, that is until I started adding about 1 tsp of lemon juice to my water. Some days more, some days less. Before I started doing this I felt water coming back up ALL the time and it was frustrating. Not to mention the fact that it felt like I constantly had mucous and heartburn. Once I added lemon juice, all of my heartburn, mucous and regurg of water went away. Why? I don't know, all I know is I could FINALLY get in 64 oz of water a day, minimum. Now, I can drink my water virgin, of course I buy the reverse osmosis water because of the chlorine and salt levels in our tap water locally. I get 64, sometimes even 128 oz of water in a day if I work on it and sometimes I can even gulp, but try not to very much. It will get better, I promise. If it doesn't, see your doc.

I like Ted's idea of using realime!
I can't stand lemonaid and I've been trying different things in my water. Then I remembered something I used to drink a while ago in the spring to "clean out" the winter yuck. It was spring water with apple cider vinegar and maple syrup. Well, of course the syrup is out...but I mix 16 oz. of water with 2 Splena packets and a drop or two of maple flavoring.
I know it probably sounds gross to most of you but I LOVE it!
Nora

I don't know if its good or bad, I do think that 'good&bad' foods and thinking are how many of us got here, so I think its great to think in terms of things being healthy and moderation. I sometimes don't get my water in and so I help things along with a large glass in the evening of sugar free (made with splenda) koolaid. Its very close to crystal lite which a lot of people drink. Good luck!

One ounce isn't going to break the bank even if it DOES have a little sugar in it. If it helps you drink the water, I'd say go for it! I often add a splash of fruit juice to mine to help me get the water down. Crystal Light is all fine and dandy BUT for some NutraSweet causes an increase in appetite. For others (me) it is just too darned sweet! I have been able to tolerate the sugar free tang. It is I guess more tangy than sweet.
