Question:
How much protein do Duodenal Switch patients need?
I thought it was 70-100 grams per day. Now my cousin, who had the same surgery, said she read 60 grams per day. How much protein do DS patients need? — Cinna G. (posted on July 8, 2002)

It depends on how tall you are and how much you weigh. The heavier you are,
the more you need. When I first started out as a new DS post-op, a
dietitian told me I needed a minimumm of 100 grams. I still try to get 90 -
100 grams of protein daily. It's not going to hurt you because you
malabsorb some of it anyway. But don't let it get below 60.
