Question:
When could you tolerate onions and garlic?
I love to cook with garlic and onions, so at what month were you able to eat either? I know at first onions would be better if cooked until very tender. At what point could you eat raw onions again, as in a sandwich? I hope no one had too many problems with these things, because I love them! — Jennifer Y. (posted on July 8, 2002)

Onions raw at about a month out. Cooked a little sooner. Garlic, well pre
op I occasionally ate whole garlic cloves raw. Jen HATED that! Post op
whole uncooked garlic cloves was the ONLY thing I threw up consistently.
Every time, instant reject:( At about 3 months that went away. Although I
only eat them occasionally raw. I really enjoy eating now, no longer eating
hugh amounts. I dont feel deprived. My 1st WLS birthday is july 23rd, BEST
DECISION I EVER MADE!

I find that now food taste bland to me so I use a lot of onions and garlic
to spice it up. I have been eating them since four weeks post op with no
problems.

Hi, I am 3 1/2 weeks out from lap rny and have ate both raw onions on a
sandwich and cooked onions and garlic without a problem. Mind you it was
just a bite or two, but they stayed down fine.
