Question:
I need food ideas for snacks & for an easy breakfast other than eggs?
I wanted to get some suggestions for high protein snacks and high protein things to eat for breakfast. I have a tendency to want to snack a lot & need some good full of protein healthy options. I also need some other options for breakfast that is fast & easy also full of protein. I'm not real big on eggs so. I get hungry for things during the day & don't have anything around so I end up going to fast food placed. Now, I do make better choices but I don't want to get caught in that fast food rut again. — Allison T. (posted on June 25, 2002)

Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast. Mixed with skim milk, it gives you
10 grams of protein plus lots of vitamins and 20% of the RDA of Potassium
for only 150 calories. PLUS that counts as 8 ounces of your liquid
requirement -- and you can crawl out of bed and have it in minutes.
Portable too. Some days I toss in an extra half scoop of protein powder --
which brings the total to 200 calories with 20 grams of protein. Check out
cottage cheese too. And I buy "string cheese" -- individually
wrapped one-ounce pieces of cheese for on the go snacking. Does that help?

I start 99% of my mornings with the individual packets of plain oatmeal. I
add splenda and skim milk and altho it's not packed with protein, it does
get my metabolism working. Then I wait about 30 minutes and I drink 20 oz.
of water w/gatorade 1/2-1/2, or o.j. 1/2-1/2. Then I wait and have a
protein drink. This is my Monday thru Friday routine during the work week.

Hello...I usually am in a hurry when I'm leaving in the mornings, so I grab
an Atkins bar. My favorite is the chocolate peanut butter, it tastes a lot
like a Reese's peanut butter cup! It has lots of fiber, and is VERY high
in protein (21 grams!) They're 2.11 ounces, so you may not be able to
finish the bar, I ususally can't in 20 minutes, so then I have some left
for a bite later on! Good luck to you!!

It sounds like you got some breakfast ideas. For snacks or small meal, try
a small packet of peanuts, or refired beans mixed with some salsa on chips.
I also have soft cheese on favored melba toast. Hope this helps.

Try keeping a jar of peanut butter at your desk. When ever I wanted a
little snack, just take a spoonful. Im not a huge peanut butter fan so it
took a while to eat it, and you get some protein.

hiya! i've found that breakfast is not usually a typical "breakfast
food" for me anymore
i start my day with protein powder mixed in coffee and that gives me
25grams of protein then around 9 o'clock i have my first
"meal"...
spaghetti-o's are actually pretty high in protein (the ones with little hot
dogs in it) and i've found that some of the "kids meals", usually
near the spaghetti o's section, like beans/weenies are good and quick..just
microwave. i also am a fan of string cheese and ritz crackers or just
different types of cheese and some broiled chicken breast.
check out: allrecipes.com for some great ideas, i love the recipes i've
downloaded so far...and most are really quick and easy and you can carry
around the left overs.
good luck!

I keep a glass canister of almonds on my counter for snacking. Almonds have
the least fat of all the nuts (and there is some evidence that not all the
fat is digested), they provide that satisfying crunch, and add a dose of
protein. For breakfast I often eat 1/2C of cottage cheese toppped with a
diced peach or several strawberries, 2T wheat germ, and a packet or two of
splenda. I never liked cottage cheese preop so I am surprised how fond I am
of this healthy sundae. I found some jerky-like steak chunks next to the
beef jerky at Cost Co. They are much more moist than the shoe-leather
jerky. They make a very nice snack and come in a zip-lock pouch.

Hi Allison. I am 2 weeks post op and actually I have cereal for breakfast
(cheerios). They dissolve easily and I can take them anywhere in a baggie.
I also have 1/2 c. of skim milk but seperately. Then I usually have a
small spoonful of Simply Jif (low sugar) peanut butter to add a little more
protein. If I even try to have a high protein drink or bar in the morning,
I'll gag!

I love to have a Skim Milk Mozarella Stick on the way out the door - fills
me up for breakfast! Also, plain yogurt with fresh fruit and splenda works
great. AS you can tell, I really love dairy products and have no problem
with milk sugar at all.

For breakfast I have a fat free Eggo waffle with strawberry Brummel and
Brown on it. You would be surprised how much protien is in the Eggo's.
