Question:
I keep craving carbohydrates. I'm afraid I will gain

I keep cravng carbs. I eat cheeze-its, crackers, popcorn, etc. I don't want to stop losing. I've lost 55 lbs in 3 months. It's coming off slow but at least it's coming off steady. How can stop craving these carbs because sooner or later it's going to catch up with me.    — Peggy D. (posted on June 25, 2002)

Try switching from high-fat/high-sugar processed snacks to "Pure Protein" or "Carb Solutions" bars. They taste just like candy bars but are very good for you and low in carbs (have about the same amount of carbs as a 1/2 slice of bread). They definitely help my sweet tooth.

I eat carbs all the time just in small amounts. My doctor just says eat your protein first then everything else.

Sounds like you are a lot like me...it is not the sweet carbs you are craving as much as the junk carbs. I know exactly what you mean once you start even if it is just eating a little of them it becomes a snowball effect sooner or later. I am trying to stay away from the junk carbs...not buy them...instead I buy thinks like snack cheeses or pork rinds, jerky, or peanuts (easy on the nuts though). Another trick someone told me was to make sure you are eating your meals til you are full and dont drink anything until at least an hour after your meal to maintain that feeling of fullness. I try to put myself on a snack schedule. I know when my snack will be and how much of a snack I am allowing myself. For example...I eat dinner at 6:00pm. I walk or swim at 7:30 til around 8:15/8:30., shower and then allow myself a snack, one snack cheese, or a handful of peanuts or pork rinds.

Congrats on your weight loss. 55 pounds in 3 months is GREAT! What do you eat for breakfast? A lot of people have had the same experience I have: When you start your day with carbs you crave them all day long. Try eating a pure or nearly pure protein breakfast (cheese, cottage cheese, protein shake, eggs, etc.). That seems to help me with my cravings. Also make sure you are eating enough protein throughout the day. Upping my protein helped with my sweets cravings. The protein bars Terissa suggested helped, too. Good luck and happy losing!

When my carb addiction got out of control (post op) I bought some Puffed Kashia. A serving is one cup. It contains only 70 caleries, no cholesterol, sodium or sugar. 60 grams of Potassium, 13g of carbohydrates, and 2 g of Fiber..... oh, and 3 grams of protein! I usually only desire half a cup and I put enough milk to "wet it" and some Splenda. I found this to be filling "in between meals" when I'm not supposed to eat. This stopped my carb craving and is tasty and healthy. By the way, this is the only Kashia ceral that does'nt taste like sawdust. But if has the Puffed seven whole grains and sesame and I really like it.

I have been told and have also read in the book"The Vitamin Bible" by Dr Earl Mandell That when you have a hungrey sweet tooth you might be low in potassium.Low potassium may also be the cause of night time leg cramps. You can deplete your potassium with lots of exersizing too.
