Question:
Has anyone experienced added hunger with the Luenell birth control shot?
I'm so upset. I was so afraid of this happening. I just got the Lunell birth control shot a few weeks ago. The reason for it is from what I understand birth control pills are no longer as effective with RNY surgery. Anyhow, I have now noticed my hunger increase which has caused me to snack though out the day. I didn't notice this before. I had a very similar experience with Depo but my GNY assured me that it is different. Could this increased hunger be from the shot? Has anyone experienced this? What can I do to curb my appetite for now. Unfortunately, this lasts for 1 month so I have to put up with it until it wears off. Any suggestions? Thanks! — Allison T. (posted on June 15, 2002)

Did your doctor give you the package insert to read, prior to giving you
the shot? If not here is the website. You might want to read this
carefully. http://www.pharmacia.com/prescription/pdf_current/lunelle.pdf

Hello, I have to admit the same thing happened to me. I recieved my first
injection and March and noticed that I have been so very hungry. More so
then usual anyway! I have also noticed that it is much harder for me to
lose the weight that I gain. I think maybe your doctor meant that you
won't gain as much weight from the lunelle shot as you would with depo.
With depo you are getting enough hormones to last you 3 months, with
Lunelle, just the 1 month. My doctor said that typically people that are
on Depo gain anywhere from 10-30+ pounds and with lunelle it's usually
onlly 5-20. Of course I gained the 20! I think that gaining 20 pounds is
much better then having to remember to take that stupid pill everyday!
Good luck!
