Question:
What about this bad taste? Not for weak stomachs...
Why do I feel like I am walking around sucking on a turd all day....LOL... I brush my teeth constantly and rinse out my mouth, but all the while I still taste crap =)... When does this end... — Beffy W. (posted on May 31, 2002)

is your tongue coated white?
You may have thrush- its a fungal infection that gives one major "turd
mouth." Ask your doc to prescribe some nystatin swish & swallow,
that clears things up fast.

I have the same problem. I had my surgery May 9th. I have heard that it
may because your body is in Ketosis, but I would also like to know if it
goes away.

The same thing happened to me a couple of weeks out. It lasted full-on for
about two to three weeks, and still...almost four months later I have times
where I feel like that. But, not half as bad or half as often as when it
first set in. It'll go away for the most part, soon. Keep yourself well
hydrated, being dry just magnifies it. Oh, invest in a pack of those
Listerine Mint strips...they'll help too. Good lcuk and congrats on your
surgery!

I found that as my diet increased to regular foods...this subsided.
Chocolate sugar free velamints are great to help with the bad taste in your
mouth.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the comments. Sometimes you just have
to get those strange questions out there. I am glad to see I am not alone.
BTW, there is no white coating on my tongue, but I will ask my DR when I
see him Wednesday... Thanks again =)

LOL....I just love the way you worded that question! Perhaps you have
developed a bacteria in your stomach such as H. Pilorie. I had this
bacteria and it did cause me to have a bad taste in my mouth all the time.
The Dr can run some blood tests to see if this is the problem. God
Bless...Still LOL!

I just had to giggle in writing cuz it made me giggle as I was reading it.
:) I have no clue why but you've described my 'zackleys' to a 't' ~ I wake
up like that every morning. I don't have it throughout the day due to the
water intake & whatnot but I know exactly what you mean first thing in
the morning. Thanks for the giggles !

I'm 4 weeks post-op. I had the same problem from about day 4 to day 20
post-op then the bad taste went away. I was told this was probably due to
ketosis.

I was told it was ketosis also. Someone worded it this way when speaking
to her husband, "thats me losing weight that you smell". I
thought that was great. It is a side-effect from the rapid weight loss. I
do wish I were still in that strong state of ketosis again! I used the
listerine strips, mints and breath sprays the whole time. I know, the
smell is horrible, but it will go away.

I know exactly what you mean. The one thing I did to help my
"turd" breath was getting a tongue scraper. I brush my teeth and
my tongue, then use the tongue scraper and then have one of those listerine
strips and I haven't had 1 person mention it.........and believe me, I'm
asking because I'm so self conscious. I'm 5 week's post op, so I hope it
will go away soon.

Hello,
I had open on Oct 4,2002 and had the same thing. Even water tasted bad.
Then I tried Gas-X and it went away. I was told it was the foamy bile in
my stomach that was coming into my mouth when I laid down. In about 12
hours the taste went away and my gas was better handled. I'm 5 weeks out
as of today, and the taste hasn't returned. I take a Gas-X with every
meal. I hope this helps!!
