Question:
Just needed some input on liquid protein & protein bars! PLEASE!!
I know there is a place on the website here with types of proteins but I wanted some more input. I need some suggestions on liquid protein. I've tried protein powders & actually have found some flavors I like but am having trouble drinking it. It just makes me sick. So I figure liquid protein would be my best option because there is a lot less liquid to drink. Only problem, I cannot find a liquid protein that I like!! I've tried GNC cherry liquid protein, Vita4life (honey & orange cream), & Protinex. All of them are yuk, yuk, yuk to me!! I'm starting to get discouraged. Is there any liquid proteins out there that are half way tolerable? I need anyone's opinion. If so where can I get this at? Also, any suggestions on a good protein bar? Thanks!! — Allison T. Try All American Whey Vanilla protein powder. We get the vanilla because
they can be mixed with so many things. First mix them with 4 oz of water
so as not to add extra calories and then add a shot of DaVinci flavored
syrup of your choice (Carmel is my favorite). You can get these online
from Michelle Curran at www.vitalady.com. These are really good! I mixed
some up for my support group last month and they all said they could drink
them. As for bars, don't try to get all your protein in using them. The
protein supplements are predigested so we absorb most of them. We aren't
really sure how much of the protein in the bars we are actually getting.

I KNOW OF A GREAT TASTING PROTEIN DIET SHAKE THAT YOU MIX IN WATER AND I
HAPPEN TO LOVE IT.
YOU CAN ORDER ALL LOW CARB-DIET AND PROTEIN ITEMS, SHAKES, LOW-CARB FRUIT
DRINKS AND FOOD PRODUCTS FROM THIS WONDERFUL SITE. THE WEB ADDRESS IS:
www.manageyourweight.com and their products are great and the prices are
reasonable. jUST CLICK ON PRODUCTS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE AND VIEW ALL
OF THEIR WONDERFUL PRODUCTS. I absolutely love the vanilla Nutrimed 420
shake (I drink a protein shake every day). It has only 80 calories 7 grams
of carbs, and 14 grams of protein. I use it as a meal supplement and add
designer protein in it to make the protein 32 grams or I use it when I
crave for snacks and sweets and just mix it with water and one splenda pack
and it is delicious and satisfying. I have tried several protein shakes
and liquid protein drinks also and I am truly content with the NUTRIMED
protein shake products. Why don't you try the shakes and products and
hopefully you will love them also. I know of quite a few WLS patients who
use their products also and they enjoy the great taste and they like that
it is nutritional. If you have any more questions feel free to email me at

Allison, I had the same problem at first. Forget protein bars. Since we
can't drink when we eat I think they are way too dense to get down.Atkins
diet makes a shake in a can already mixed that I put in the frig to grab
when I am busy in the mornings (his powder mix is a little too thick). One
protein drink that tastes really good is "Doctor's Diet low carb
smoothie" I found this at the health food store it has 23g of protein
and LOTS of vitamins, I prefer to mix with skim milk, it tastes better and
adds more protein. Another I use when I want my protein alotment out of the
way for the day is "Isopur" you can get it at health food store.
This one has 50g of protein and again I mix with milk to bring it to about
60g of protein!!!It costs about $50 but its worth it to me. This one really
needs the blender/mixer or you will lumps in your shake.Good luck to you.

Thanks for asking the question...I am in similar situation. I am still
pre-op but I have begun experimenting. Since I am a vegetarian (ovo-lacto)
it's VERY hard for me to tolerate protein bars even pre. After half of one
the other night, I threw it right up. I heard that Myoplex was good. I
tried it yesterday and like it, so I think I'll stick with that (chocolate
flavor).

I don't care for most protein powders but I use an unflavored one--usually
MLO milk & egg protein. I mix it with lots of stuff--soup, cream of
wheat, smoothies, etc. I have a couple of favorites: milk + protein powder
+ instant latte powder + ice (thin consistency and delicious), and milk +
protein powder + sf oreos + 1 tbs cool whip free + ice (cookies 'n' cream
shake!). I also like NSA carnation instant breakfast. I mix that with milk
alone or with milk + espresso + ice for an iced mocha drink. Yummy! If you
want to try some protein bars, I have some listed on my profile with their
protein and sugar grams listed. I am very picky but have found enough
tolerable kinds of bars to have one every morning and not get tired of
them. Good luck and happy losing!

Allison, Hi!! I understand your problem completely!! I have tried many many
protein shakes and liquid proteins. My major problem was the TASTE AND
AMOUNT. I hate drinking more than 4 oz. so here's what I did and maybe you
can try this as well. I bought a bottle of TWINLAB with Amino fuel protein
liquid. I mix it fruit punch gatorade or orange juice(4oz) along with my
liquid multi vitamins and B-12. Stir it and down it and its over and done
with! You should be able to buy Twinlab at most any store. I bought mine at
a Albertsons and I plan on looking around to see if I can find a cheaper
price on it. Good Luck to you Allison!!

I never thought I'd ever say I found a liquid protein I would use
willingly. While I take Cheramino once/day, it is gross. I'm using Amino
INfusion 5000, which is not tart. More sweet like kids cough syrup? Grape
or fruit punch. 6 T = 30g. Straight up, no thanks. I've been adding it
to my 24 oz water bottle and it makes the water go easier, too. Then it
tastes rather like Propel or Fruit 2 O. I still love my ProScore 100
chocolate, of course, but this is just an adder for me. And unlike most
collagen based proteins, this one is a complete protein. So, that's a nice
plus.

The best investment I made after my surgery was ordering about 25
individual samples of different protein drinks from vitalady.com. Actually
I got the number and called them. I picked 23 and they suggested 2 others.
(The 2 they suggested purepro grape and tropical punch turned outt to be
my favorites.) There are so many choi8ces - but so many are terrible. The
samples were very reasonable and I wasn't stuck with alot of product after
I decided I didn't like it. Good luck.
