Question:
I am almost 6 weeks post-op and I ate a cruncy taco last night for dinner.

Is that to much at one sitting?    — Kristy -. (posted on May 21, 2002)

Keep in mind here... everyone's different. At 5 months post-op I can't eat a whole taco... But, your best bet, is to ask your surgeon, if ever you're in doubt about how much you should be eatting. All surgeons and surgeries are different as well as the people receiving them. You'll get a range of answers between "I was still eatting soft foods at 6 weeks" (which is my answer) to "Sure I could eat that and a little more" You need to find the answer that's right for you and works best for your weight reduction. Good luck on your journey! :)

You need to realize that the crunchy taco crunches down to almost nothing compared to what it looks like in whole form. At 3 months I posted a question about being able to eat a whole taco. I was surprised that I could eat the whole thing. Everyone said that it was ok and that it really wasn't that much. So I will say the same...

Everyone is different. I'm 6 1/2 months post-op and can just now eat an entire taco!! At 6 weeks I could eat maybe 1/4 of it if I was lucky.

I really don't know for sure, but I can share my experience with you. When I made the transition to solids, and for many weeks following, I literally took the chewing thing so far as to never swallow anything that was not liquified. I was often hungry, and believe that that was part of the reason. So, if you also chewed your taco to liquid and took some time to eat it, I'd say it's definitely possible to eat that much in one sitting. I am 3 1/2 months out and I've never gotten sick and could probably eat more than I do, but to make sure I am not eating too much, I still religiously measure out my food at each sitting to no more than 4 oz (which some people still think is a lot). Oh, and although I still chew a lot...I've lightened up a bit. :) Find what's best for you, as long as you are within the limitations of your pouch and nutritional needs, you should be fine.

I am 7 weeks post op tomorrow and ate my 1st whole taco at about 5 1/2 weeks post op...I feel that as long as you are chewing your food and dont have any ill side effects, then you are fine. The most important thing with this is listening to your body. It will tell you when you have gone wrong.
