Question:
I had surgery 8 mths ago, lost 90lbs and I am also eating pretty normal
this is very scary i think that i am eating too much. i can eat without feeling a sense being full. I don't dump any more like before. I have not lost since my 8th month, i don't know what to do. I am begining to feel that this surgery has failed me. please help I would like some suggestion on how to break from this plateau and also curb my appetitte. thank you — maryann O. Hi, Maryann - I was 8mos post op on March 30th. I can also eat more now
than I did just one month ago. I found that I am getting closer to
"normal" I was allowing myself more carbs. I decided to go back
to basics and limit carbs again and concentrate on eating simply protein. I
do 3 whey supplements daily - 22 gms of protein each - and eat 3-4 times
per day. I do allow myself a low carb snack (NSA ice cream bar or SF jello
w/whipped topping). This has seemed to get my "munchies" under
control again. I have lost enough now that if I didn't loose any more it
would be ok, but I am close enough to making my "goal" that it is
worth buckling down again. I also drink about 3 litres daily of water or
water w/some crystal lite and excercise 4x/wk.
Good luck - feel free to email me -we can encourage each other.

I agree with previous posters. For me, at 5 yrs post op I had reset my dump
o meter by eliminating all sugars and starchy carbs. I eat protein first
which satiates me longer and I get full faster. Then veggies then starches
if I have room. I drink a lot of water and eat 6 times a day. I felt like
I failed the surgery between yrs 3 and 5. Today I am a normal size and
maintaining. Remember, the surgeon cannot fix the brain so we need to deal
with the head hunger. Rita in Vermont RNY 3/31/94 463 then, 190ish now

I, too, had a plateau in months 7-8. I had gone a little carb crazy! It was
around Halloween and I could suddenly eat more PLUS my hunger came back big
time. What worked for me probably won't work for everybody but if you want
to try it: I upped my protein intake to 100 grams a day. One way I did this
is to add a protein bar daily as my mid-morning meal. This seemed to curb
my sweets cravings. I also made an effort to drink more water as that has
always been a problem for me. I made sure I was eating small meals every
2-3 hours to keep my metabolism steady throughout the day. The result? I
conquered the hunger by eating when I was hungry--just more protein and
less carbs--and conquered the sweets cravings with the protein bars. I even
found one that tastes like a Snickers! AND I made it to goal without
feeling deprived or miserable. Hope this helps. It worked for me!

I will never fall out of love with this site. I was so ashame of myself.
I too have felt like such a failure lately. I am 100 pounds away from my
goal. I have lost 125, and I'm proud of that, but I have started munching
on chips and m&m's. After I learned that sugar don't really make me
dump, I've been eating more of it. I want to do better, but lately, I've
lost the will. I don't pig out on them constantly, but I will eat a snack
size bag of chips and bag of m&m's. I'm going to do better cause I
didn't go through this for nothing. We need to pray for each other.
Thanks for sharing.
