Question:
Will I be-able to get all vitamins in?

I am getting ready to have my surgery 4/26. I know what vitamins are needed for after RNY surgery but will I be-able to get all of them in in one day? I would like to hear from post-ops and what is their daily routine when taking vitamins & what vitamins you're taking? Thanks so much. This is the BEST website, so many helpful & friendly people. God Bless you all :)    — L S. (posted on March 31, 2002)

Eventually. At first, you'll have to space them way out and increase gradually. I was at full speed by 2 weeks.

Also remember that there are liquid versions of a few things and sub-lingual of some. The sub-lingual ones you just put under your tongue and let them dissolve. Also, some pills can be broken up and taken in smaller pieces. The dietician I saw recommended that with the calcium pills.

Just an idea: taking mine with warm fluids, like decaf coffee helps me get them down. Even with that I feel full. Like I've had my breakfast, LOL. My family says I should rattle when I walk! Vitalady is right, too, space them out. She's great as far as advice on vitamins and supplements. Good Luck! Donna in AL

Vitalady and Michelle Curran are one and the same person. And, yes, she does have great advice about protein supps and vitamins. Listen to her about calcium intake. She learned the hard way.

I am only just now able to get all my vitamins in on a daily and consistent basis. (8 weeks post-op). The hardest one for me was the calcium citrate. I don't like the taste of the liquitabs or the wafers, and the tablets are huge! But I've healed sufficiently that I can now swallow a tablet whole. My suggestion is that you start on your post-op vitamin regimen while you are still pre-op - I think it helped my healing a lot.

my doctor told us to take one chewable flintstone vitamin with iron and minerals in the morning and one at bedtime, and 5 months out all of my blood work has been perfect.
