Question:
What are people's favorite good tasting protein bars?
Hi...I bought a couple of Carb Solutions protein bars because they were on sale at Safeway. The smell alone when I opened one nearly made me drop to the floor. I took a tiny bite (chocolate fudge almond flavor), thinking MAYBE the taste did not match the smell, and it was entirely gross. Do any of the other brands taste any better? They're kind of expensive so I don't want to go buying all different ones just to try out. I would rather have some good "referrals" from people on this board. Hi Joy! Excellent question, because protein bars ARE expensive and so many
taste like CRUD! (I've tried TOO MANY TO COUNT in my time!) I HATE the
Carb Solutions bars too~YUCK! I agree, the SMELL alone can make you ill!

I think the Designer Protein bars are "okay"~I
personally like the Peanut Better Body and the Malted Milk Muscles (I think
that's what they're called!) but they ARE chewy.
**My ALL-TIME
FAVORITE BAR IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD is Protein 8 Chocolate
Coconut by Premier Nutrition. I buy mine at GNC because I cannot
find them online. You must like coconut, of course, but these are like
candy bars in their texture...not too chewy, easy to digest. I'm 4 weeks
post-op and have been eating one for breakfast since about 12 days post-op!
I LOVE them! They are also only $1.79/each or about $21.00/box from GNC
(I have a gold card with them so they're even LESS expensive!) They go so
quickly from the store that I have them CALL ME when they come in and order
2 boxes at a time (12/box)! LOL Good luck!

I tried a lot of protein drinks and protein bars until I found one that I
actually like. Met Rx Protein plus is the only one I actually liked. My
favorite is chocolate roasted peanut. It has 250 calories, with 34 grams
of protein, 13 carbohydrates and 3 sugars. They are filling and I usually
eat half of one for a meal. If you have Phar Mors in your area, that is
where i found it the cheapest, 50 cents less than Walmart. Just keep in
mind, we all have different tastes so what tastes good to someone else, may
not taste good to you. However, this one doesn't give me that nasty after
taste like many of them did. Good Luck!!

Ultimate LoCarb2 bar in Shocolate Smores Supreme... Complete Protein Diet
Bar in Toasted Coconut... and Doctors Diet Bar in Smores are all fantastic!
I eat half of one as a morning snack and the other half in the afternoon
and they all taste like a candy bar. I tried every bar made with less than
5 carbs and these are great.

As usual you guys RULE when it comes to good suggestions. I've printed
them out and will put the list in my purse to refer to when I'm in GNC,
Walgreen's, etc. I'm still pre-op, but trying to get my diet under control
beforehand. Thanks and hugs, Joy

the first time I tried a protein bar I thought it was the most respusive
thing invented, now, I rather like them! The more you eat them, the better
they become! I love Met RX, Atkins and EAS bars. I just bought a ton of
ATKINS bars because they were on sale and all flavors are pretty good. The
ATKINS powder is pretty good, also!

I just reciently went and bought some protein bars from Costco called
"Zone Perfect" and they are pretty good. The Strawberry Yogurt
one is REALLY good..taste like Fruit Loops.

My faves are the EAS lemon cheesecake and apple cinnamon. The cheapest
place to get them is Walmart. They keep them in the pharmacy section. My
wholesale club (don't laugh, it's called BJ's Wholesale!) also just started
carrying a variety pack that's pennies cheaper than Walmart.

Wal-Mart has the best tasting protein bars. They are called Advant Edge
Carb. control nutrition bar.Only 2 1/2 g carbs.
per bar 24-26g protein. They come in Lemon Cheesecake(yummy)
blueberry, apple cinnamon, cookies and cream and peanut butter
chocolate. The best thing is the price $ 1.50 compared to GNC $ 2.99 . I
tried so many different bars and these were best tolerated by my new
stomach. I tried GNC and the smell was so bad that when I ate it ,I felt
ill.

.97 Everywhere else is 1.25 or more.

LUNA BARS!!! I buy them by the case at <www.drugstore.com> I could
not stand the texture or density of any other ones I tried. Luna's come in
lots of flavors too so at 6 1/2 months out I'm still not bored. They are
pretty easy to find so you try them before ordering a case. As far as
shakes I buy Whey delicious, also over the net. One ounce of it is only
100 calories but has 21 grams of protein. Best part is not just the taste
but it doesn't have any grit to it. The gritty ones so grossd me out! You
can find them at <http://proteinishealthy.com> and their delivery is
really quick!

I don't think the post about Luna bars is correct. I've checked the labels
on the Clif website (www.clifbar.com) and NONE of the Luna bars has more
than 10 grams of protein or LESS than 24 grams of Carbohydrates. These
taste good, because of the 14+ grams of sugar in them!! They are basically
"candy bars" with a small amount of protein in them. Also, they
average about 180 calories per bar. If you only eat 1/2 bar, you're only
getting 5 grams of protein for that 90+ calories.. not a good deal at all.

I use Met-RX Protein Plus bars. 34g. protein / 8g. fat / 3g. sugar / 250
calories. The chocolate fudge and chocolate/roasted peanut are the best
tasting. A SIDE NOTE: I have discovered that I enjoy things post-op that
I would have HATED pre-op. My mind tells me "You NEED this, so you're
GOING to enjoy it!".. and it WORKS! I don't know how, but I'm glad
that I'm not having trouble eating right.. because I've accepted the fact:
this is the way it's gotta be..!! Good Luck..

The designer whey peanut better body tastes ok but the texture put me off.
Kind of like foam rubber. :( The real winners were Boulder Bars in peanut
butter (10 g protein) and Atkins Advantage in chocolate coconut (18 g
protein). I also tried (and tossed in the trash) ultimate lo carb coconut
almond. YUCK! Carb solutions bars have too much aftertaste for me now
although I ate them occasionally preop.
