Question:
I'm 6 wks post lap RNY, and I'm trying tuna fish for the first time.
In case it doesn't agree w/ me, how long before the dumping symptoms start? Thank you, Kim — Kim W. (posted on November 8, 2001)

Sugar and too much fat can cause dumping. Plain tuna won't make you dump.
It might make you gag though :)

When I was about 6 weeks post op, I had tuna too. It was great. I mixed a
little mayo in it to moisten it and spread it on a Ritz cracker, put some
cheese on top and then put it in the oven to melt. It was heaven. I started
out only able to eat about 1 cracker and then the further out I got, the
more I could eat, until now I can eat about 4 or 5 of these crackers.(I'm
10 months post) This was just the perfect meal for me. I don't believe you
will dump on this combo. Don't use a lot of mayo (I used regular not fat
free) and I think you will be fine. ENJOY!!! Shelley

I started tuna a few weeks post-op. And I actually used regular mayo to
mix it with. I put it on crackers and it went down just fine, as long as I
ate slow. The first time I dumped it was from eating too much too fast.
Tuna will not hurt you. Just don't over-do it!

I had tuna around the same time and did fine. Make sure you moisten it a
bit though it could be hard to swallow when on the drier side....and you
know the rules no drinking when eating. ( I do sneak a sip every now and
again!!!!) I would make sure you chew it really well and eat slow.
Dumping for me anyway usually starts within a 1/2 hour or less of eating.
I do find chicken at this point off limits for me...Im 21/2 months
postop....But tuna should be great....Enjoy and happy losing!!!!!
