Question:
I'm 3 1/2 weeks post Lap Rny, and still on a full liquid diet. Is it ok to drink
the broth from wonton & egg drop soup? I've been good so far and haven't cheated. — [Anonymous] (posted on October 25, 2001)

Yes, I'm sure the broth would be fine it's basically just
like chicken bullion (sp?). I added a little water to mine
the sodium was way too much for my liking but I think that
either broth would be fine. Good luck to you...

Not only can you have those things on full liquid diet, you could have them
on a CLEAR liquid diet. Full liquids includes LOTS of things. Runny cream
of wheat, pudding, milk, etc. You're being very "good", in fact,
better than you "have" to be!

My surgeon's full liquid diet regimen included all the "clear
liquids" like broths and Jello plus all/any creamed soups, puddings,
yogurt, "runny" grits/oatmeal/mashed potatoes, etc... He
advocates "blenderizing" anything that the rest of your family is
eating...just remember that you will need to add small amounts of milk or
broth to blenderized foods to obtain the desired consistency. I used ice
cube trays to freeze blenderized foods. That way, I could just "pop
out" the portions that I knew I would eat instead of having multiple
containers of this-and-that cluttering up the refrigerator. Our surgeon
moves his patients to a "soft diet" at 3 weeks, so perhaps this
liquid stage will soon be over for you. Don't overstock on a lot of these
liquid food items...I still have a pantry full of instant pudding that I
never used :-)

liquids???

yes yes yes - I too do not know why you are still on full liquids at 3 and
1/2 weeks and not sure how long you were told to stay on them - I was on
full liquids for 3 weeks and then soft/pureed for 5 and I thought that was
long compared to others I have seen here - but you should do what your
surgeon recommends - the answer to your question - one of my favorite
liquid meals was the egg drop soup broth - because the broth is a little
thicker it felt like I was "eating" - it did not take much
either:)
Good luck.
