My doctor set up my surgery date for July 30th but....................

I haven't been approved by insurance company yet, nor have I started my pre-op testing (EKG, blood work, etc.). How can they set up a surgery date without insurance approval. I am so excited to have a date but I just keep thinking my ins. co. is going to deny me. Any help will be appreciated.
