Has anyone experience severe back pain?

I am 6 weeks out from surgery and I have been having severe back pain. It is in the upper part between my shoulder blades. I had a chest x-ray and blood work done and it all came back normal.... Now my surgeon wants me to have a cat scan of the chest and abdomen. Has anyone else experienced this?? The pain comes and goes.... It is almost like a spasm but why would I be having this... and it has been going on for about a month... Any suggestions?
