Why cant you eat for a couple hours after you are sick?

I WAS JUST CURIOUS TO KNOW WHY IT IS THAT YOU CANT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING FOR A COUPLE HOURS AFTER YOU THROW UP? WHAT IS GOING ON INSIDE MY STOMACH THAT I CANT SEE?
