Is it ok to take liquid vioxx, post op?

I am 2 weeks post op and altho my surgeon gave me a perscription for liquid vioxx, I haven't taken any yet. He wasn't happy about giving me anything for the arthrit. in my knees. I'm scared to take it, but my knees are so bad I can't do as much walking as I know I need to. Please advise me. Thanks and God bless.
