Can a hernia cause burning pain?

I have an incisional hernia and have been having burning pain for the last two/three months. The doctor thought it was an ulcer and prescribed me carafate. I've been on that over two months and at first it seemed as if it was working, but it doesn't now. I've even taken antacids to relieve the pain, but they usually don't help much. It is a low-grade pain and usually tolerable. I can get the pain at anytime, but usually it happens at night, especially if I've been sitting in a certain position for a while. If I lay down, it usually feels better. When I wake up I usually feel pretty good, it gets worse as the day goes by. Sometimes when I drink or take medication, I get the pain, but usually I don't. I'm going to see the doctor next Thursday, but was wondering if this may be related to the hernia.
