Has anyone continued taking Glucophage immediately after surgery?

I take Glucophage for Type II Diabetes. It's done well to control the diabetes but really does a number on my stomach. I can't even begin to imagine taking it on a newly stapled stomach. OUCH!!! Has anyone got any medication suggestions about this? Thanks!!
