Yes there is a difference.
Anyone wanting to know the difference between WLS procedures should go to http://www.asbs.org/html/story/ch_1.html. That gives the history of WLS and describes most procedures w pros & cons. Not to knock VGBs, but statically, fewer people achieve the desired weight loss and only 60% keep it off. The types of foods you can not, and more importantly, can eat affect weight loss retention. With VBG, only 65% achieve and maintain their weight loss. With a gastric bypass, there is less restrictions on types of food to eat, but more importantly, it restricts the amount of sugar (bye bye ice cream and candy) that can be comfortably eaten. There is an 86% weight loss retention. I dont remember exactly, but I think the distal procedure has a slightly higher weight loss retention, 90%. So if you read the literature, it suggests there is a difference. You can find out for yourself by doing a web search for the word "bariatric". I went to 500 sites and read them all. This will give you good overall view. Good luck and good bye to the excess weight!! Ray Hooks [email protected] (210) 523-5464
