Hair loss with men

I am post op 7 months and did have the "typical" hair loss at 3-6 months. My husband is now going thru the motions of having this surgery done...my question is....Do men lose hair the same as women? I was wondering if hormones played a part in this issue. My husband is very thin on top, I have fears it won't grow back as nicely as mine is.
