What happens if you lose your insurance post op?

Well, I hate to admit it, but I am extremely unhappy at my current job, and I am starting to look for a new one. I think that I will be resigning and then possibly temping for awhile or taking the summer off and looking for a job in the fall. I won't be able to COBRA my insurance because it is way to expensive. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do for insurance? I thought about state aide but I am worried that they won't let me go to my surgeon for a follow up. Any suggestions? Thanks
