Has anyone been prescribed Lomotil for diarrhea

I am still researching the surgery. My husband is diabetic and suffered from daily diarrhea for years. Finally I got him to talk to his doctor who said that it was a common problem with diabetics and prescribed Lomotil, which my husband now takes daily. It has literally changed his life - we used to have to plan our day around his "bathroom times". One of my concerns is that I will have similar problems after the surgery and since I work on client sites it is not something that is always handled gracefully. Since my fibromyalgia sometimes causes problems anyway, I'd like to know there is a remedy that will help keep me productive during work.
