When I lost my hair, it came back curly.

Before I had my surgery my hair was straight and thin. I lost most of my hair my 3rd month post op now after a year my head is full of curly hair. I always wanted curly hair so I wouldn't have to perm it. I love it but it is weird. What causes this? Will it go back straight and thin?
