Can I eat recipes that contain brown sugar?

I have been going thru my recipes to see if I would be able to handle them now that I am post op. Many of them call for brown sugar, some 2 or 3 TBLS and of course other foods like meat or veggies. My question is can those recipes still be included in my new diet or am I going to dump on them? Splenda is a great substitute for white sugar, but is there a substitute for brown sugar? I am a long way off before I can have these foods because I am still on a blended diet and then I go to soft foods before I go back to regular foods. It will not be until the middle of July that I can eat regular foods again. Open RNY May 7, 2003 -30# so far.
