Not a question, more of a boast!
I just wanted to say I am so proud of my husband! Dr. Keith Gersin did his lap RNY on April 9 (Wednesday) at The University Hospital in Cincinnati, and he came home from the hospital this afternoon - that's right - a one day hospital stay! (He just HAD to beat me - I stayed 2 days). He was walking in the hall last evening after he came up from the recovery room, and sat up in the chair for awhile. He had his leak test this morning, got rid of the Morphine and catheter and got busy walking. He was able to tolerate water and pureed food just fine, so he is now at home. I should say, though, that he is a lightweight (BMI 38.5), and they also let him come home early because I had been through surgery and I am a nurse. I wonder if the candy I took to the pre-surgery area, OR staff, and recovery room folks had anything to do with it?! When the surgeon called to tell me my husband's surgery went well, he thanked me for sending the candy first! I figured those folks get us through some rough spots and they never get the goodies from grateful patients like the floor nurses do, so we decided to thank them at the time. It was pretty funny to watch my loopy guy being trundled off to OR, jabbering and making jokes with his box of candy and card on his lap! (And the nurses on the floor got goodies, too. Everyone was great, just as when I had surgery.)
