Can someone tell me the role of an angel and how one is obtained?

I am starting to feel the need for an angel. :-) It sounds, from what I have read so far to be a wonderful commodity to have. I am hoping to have surgery in Dec or Jan, unfortunately I have no date yet. {{hugs}}
