where do all this mucus and bubbles come from?

Last night I had am extended vomiting experience. I ate a piece of chicken and thought I just didn't chew well enough...I got that pain and then the feeling to vomit. I did, but then I couldn't stop retching. There seems to be endless bubbly froth coming up. Then it woke me from sleep about 4 hours later and I vomited more for about 20 minutes of the same stuff. What is that?
