My surgeon bypasses 56 inches of intestine, I am confused..what is this considered,

distal or proximinal? Is this good or bad? I don't dump on anything & have never vomited. My surgery was on May 1st & I am down 87 # I guess my thoughts are that is not very much,but i am confused comparing inches to centimeters. Any one good at explaining? Thanks
