Help!!!!!!! Has anyone in Calif. bought ins just to have surgery.

Im having a breakdown trying to get insur. I have the chance to accept cobra but its with Kaiser(Need I Say More) plus cobra is expensive. I have applied for blue cross and they turned me down because of weight which is 229 and a previous back problems. Im no stuck and dont know where to look now. They offered me MRMIP(major risk) but said it could take up to a year to get on the list. I need to know if anyone else has bought this ins. and did it take a year. Since my ins. with Kaiser ended with my job on 5-1-01 I need to hurry and purchase Ins. so that they can waived the preexisting clause. Can anyone give me feed back on what to do next.
