Can I take zinc 8 days before surgery?

I am 8 days away from surgery and I feel like I might be getting a cold. I have started on Vitamin C and drinking plenty of water. The BTC gave me a list of things to avoid 2 weeks before my murgery and I am pretty sure that zinc is not on it. Is it ok to take it to help lessent the effects of the cold?
