i swell very bad when i use anything with caffine.

if caffine is a diuretic why do i swell whenever i drink to much tea or use a diet pill with caffine in it for extra energy? i gain an extra 5 or 6 pounds in one day if i take a diet pill to get the energy i need from time to time. then it takes a good week or more to get it off. does anyone have any ideas how i can combat this extra weight gain, while still using caffine from time to time.
