Has anyone dealt with Qual Choice and bi-polar?

I have been diagnosed with bi-polar back in 1996 but have never felt I really was. But now that I'm going for surgery it is an issue. The psychologist I went to, who doesn't even know me, wrote it as part of her evaluation to the insurance company and felt I may not do well as a bariatric patient. I'm worried that I will be denied just for being so called "bi-polar". I'm going to a psychiatrist to see if he agrees with this diagnosis.
