I had a hernia repair a week ago and was told I have nerve damage, anyone else?

I've been very sick with pancreatitis and just had surgery to remove my gallbladder and while they were doing that they fixed my hernia (that they or me didn't know I had till they were doing the surgery) and now I have this awful burning pain a week and a few days later from the hernia repair. I was told that it was nerve damage and one Dr. said it would eventually go away, but another said it lasted a long time. It's horrible. It's like someone is pouring acid on my skin and there's nothing I can do to relieve it, but lie down. Anyone else have this with their surgery? The Dr. said it's common in all types of surgey, where they have to cut through the skin.
