Has anyone had complications when you were self pay, and did your insurance pay ?

I might have to go self pay and I have been quoted a package price that includes everthing, doctor,hospital etc. I am wondering if you develope complications after surgery will your insurance pay for treatment of the complications,ie blood clot,wound infection leak etc.I don't want to have complications and end up owing the hospital lots of money.
