Link to Mayo Clinic research on Neuropathy and Gastric Bypass
This is more informational than a question and it's kind of long, sorry. About 3 months after RNY I got real sick and developed Neuropathy that was directly attributable to a vitamin deficiency. Yes, I was taking vitamins before I got sick and was getting a monthly B-12 shot. I started throwing up everything, and I mean everything, so couldn't eat or drink or take my vitamins. You can read a more detailed account of what happened to me on my profile. Now, 7 months later, I am MUCH improved, but still have neuropathy in my lower legs and feet. I'm still interested in researching this condition and was told that on a news program the other day - don't know what program -they were talking about the occurance of Neuropathy in Gastric Bypass patients. So, did some new research and found the following link: http://www.newswise.com/articles/view/507587/ When this first happened to me, I researched this site and found maybe four other people who reported this problem. I'm starting to see more people post questions about neuropathy, or numbness in their extremities. It's like the little secret no one talks about. I think it was known that it was out there, but no one really paid attention to it. I wouldn't have had the problem if I would have been able to continue taking my vitamins, but I got sick and one thing lead to another. Anyway, my point is that we (and our doctors) have to take this risk or complication seriously and try to prevent it. The final question is, "Would I still have gastric bypass?" and the answer is "Yes!" RNY 12/03 292/161/150? TMC
