Severe abdominal pain after taking Lortab

I am 7 months out from RNY GB and have lost 91 lbs. I was on Lortab prior to surgery for joint and back pain, and am still taking it anytime I need something stronger than Tylenol. I've noticed recently that I am having pretty severe abdominal pain right after I take the Lortab. It feels kind of like before surgery when I would take Ibuprofen on an empty stomach. Someone suggested chewing the tablets up for better absorption, so I've been doing that and wonder if that could be why I'm having the abdominal pain? Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Would appreciate any help or advice you could offer.
