birth control question

I've had my first shot of depo and am going off it --its AWFUL! I haven't stopped bleeding for 6 weeks, but I was wondering what has worked for other people? Is the patch a hassle? Do people really have successs using the pill? My doctor didn't suggest it, but I know other doctors say its okay...just wondering what other things work for other people.
