LIFE INSURANCE POLICY-was denied because of surgery

I tried to get a policy (have a husband and young children) and they denied me because of my Lap Band Surgery, that is bullcrap. Has anyone else every experience this? i mean i thougt because the surgery is approved in the US the should not be able to deny you, right or am i crazy?
