Did everyone have to have the filter put it in.

Hi I am having thelap band taken out and having RNY on May 11,2010, I did my pre op today, I was told that I have to have a surgery on May 6 to have a filter put in. I dont know anything about that if someone could please give me info on that. I am scared about the surgery but everytime I get on that scale and it keeps going up, I get less scared.
