Taking prilosec

I am 6 weeks out and the dr went yesterday to do an enlargement of my opening out of my new stomach. My question is i am still belching and have a bad taste when i do belch. I have heard that was from acid reflux. If so does anyone think taking prilosec without dr approval ok?. i am sick of having this belching and bad taste. dont feel like eating or drinking because i am going to belch. PLEASE HELP!!!!!
