Need info on use of Magic Bullett

Seem to be asking lots of ?s lately but 6/3 is my date. A friend gave me a Magic Bullet she never used but had lost inst book. What are the two long cylindrical things that go down inside the big blender for. Also, for what is the base with flatter blades to be used. I also have ? re protein drinks. Do they lose some effectiveness after time (e.g. like when mixed & put in fridge)?? Many thanks and pls say prayer for a very anxious lady in North Texas..not much sleep these days.
