Has anyone taken this sort of antibiotic?

I'm almost 3 months post-RNY and have strep throat. :( The urgent care doc prescribed Omnicef and said to open the capsules and mix w/ applesauce. The pharmacist was concerned because I'm allergic to cillins and there's a rare cross-reaction. So I have Benadryl on-hand and made my family aware of what's going on. Also did my homework and found out I can't take it within 2 hours of vitamins or iron. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has been down this road-- especially in regards to combating a major infection w/ the malabsorbption issue. Thanks!
