Did anyone else have a sleep study and not be able to sleep?

I couldn't sleep, my back was killing me and at about 2 am the tech asked if I wanted to terminate the test...she kind of reccomended it. It was miserable , I spent the last hour w/ tears running down my face. Is this test mandatory for surgery..I don't see my dr. until tomorrow
