gout after gastric bypass
I had an open Rouen-y gastric bypass the first week of November 2009. As of early June, I've lost a little more than 100 pounds. I drink high quality protein, take many vitamins, and other heart healthy and anti-inflammatory supplements daily. For over two months, I've been stricken with disabling bouts of gout and bursitis. My surgeon's office advises that experts are aware a small number of patients develop gout due to the rapid weight loss but they don't know why. Now I take medications for gout and prednisone for the bursitis but the pain doesn't stop. Has anyone else experienced this and do you know why it happens? Will it stop when my weight levels out?
