Are loose bowel movements or diarrhea signs of malabsorption?

I had RNY medial, according to my surgeon. From what I am reading on here, at least I think what I am reading, seems that when you have loose stools or diarrhea, these are signs of fat not being absorbed. Am I correct? Thanks...Shirley
