Amount of intestine bypassed?

I am scheduled for surgery (open rny) on the 17th of this month. I had my pre-op with my sergeon again and he said that they were going to be bypassing 6 feet of intestine instead of the normal 3 feet. The reason I was given is because of my high BMI, (70) doing so will increase the malabsorbtion and there will be longer weight loss time and more total weight loss. Has anyone had this done or heard of this?? Thanks so much
